Wedding Preparations

There’s something about winter weddings that I absolutely love. They seem to have a real depth of warmth and cosiness about them. The colours and textures are completely different to a summer wedding too, deep reds, vibrant oranges and lush greens. They kind of make you feel all warm inside.

So having the pleasure of photographing Luke & Casey’s late November wedding in York was always going to be all of the above and more.

Wedding day preparations were starting early at the Principle Hotel in the centre of York, which if you didn’t know is a marvel of Victorian architecture, situated right next door to York’s famous main railway station.

Casey & Luke were both getting ready here, so it was easy for me to alternate between both rooms. While Chloe and Amie were expertly finishing off makeup and hair, I jumped in the lift to go down and photograph the boys getting ready. With the bridal preparations finished and Casey looking absolutely amazing in her Stella York wedding dress and Jenny Packham shoes, it was time to head out into the York Countryside to the fabulous Normans wedding venue.

Groom preparations

This was going to be my first time here at The Normans and from the moment I arrived, I was made to feel really welcome by Sharon the Normans wedding coordinator, nothing was to much trouble for this lady and her friendly team…

The Normans

The ceremony its self takes place in the main barn, with all of 80 plus candles lit and a curtain of cascading fairy lights lighting up the ceremony area, the barn looks so cosy and romantic, perfect for a cold chilli November day.

The wedding guests slowly made their way in and found a seat. With live classical background music resonating around the barn, elegantly played by Athena Strings, it was time for Casey to make her entrance.

The ceremony was beautiful, the love and support and warmth from family and friends was palpable. Luke and Casey never seemed to stop laughing and smiling the whole way through.

Confetti Exit

With the signing of the register and the formalities completed, it was time for Luke to whisk Casey up the aisle, dodging the confetti gauntlet as they went, then bursting through the double barn doors, to be greeted with a small jug of warm mulled wine/Cider and a mince pie. Mmmmm! Who doesn’t like a mince pie?

With the natural day light fading fast there was just enough time to take the newlyweds outside for their couple portrait session.

With day turning to night, it was time for the evening celebrations to begin. The speeches were epic, especially when two of Casey’s bridesmaids starting singing a pre-planned song/Rap. It was definitely a golden button moment for me!…

Next up was the cutting of the cheese wedding cake (my favourite!).Followed by a very smooth first dance, “A Million Dreams” from the Greatest Showman.

 Like all great weddings, once the first dance was finished the dance floor was invaded with wave of hedonistic wedding guests.

A big thankyou to Luke and Casey for having me along on their wedding day adventure. I absolutely loved it!
